Many people think vaccination is only for children. In fact, immunity from some childhood vaccines can wane over time, and a number of diseases are actually more dangerous when they strike adults.
Vaccines Strongly Recommended for All Adults
1. Influenza (Flu) — Every Year
The influenza virus mutates every season, so the vaccine needs to be updated annually. In Indonesia, flu vaccination is ideally done before the rainy season (October–November).
2. Tetanus-Diphtheria (Td) — Booster Every 10 Years
Tetanus can be fatal and the risk of exposure is everywhere. If you haven't had a booster in the past 10 years, schedule one right away.
Vaccines Based on Condition and Risk
3. Hepatitis B (3 doses)
Transmitted through blood and bodily fluids. Mandatory for healthcare workers and anyone who never received this vaccine in childhood.
4. Hepatitis A (2 doses)
Transmitted through contaminated food and water. Important for travellers to endemic areas and food-industry workers.
5. HPV (Human Papillomavirus)
Recommended for women aged 9–45 and men aged 9–26. Protects against cervical cancer and genital warts.
6. Pneumococcal (PCV/PPSV23)
Strongly recommended for those aged 65+ and people with chronic illnesses. Protects against bacterial pneumonia, which can be fatal.
